The Arts, Culture and Events Center: A new venue for the Symphony

The has unveiled a rare line up of concerts that will take it to venues across the region in the month of July, playing a list of composers ranging from to John Williams to Natalie Merchant and the rock band .

The performances are unusual because the CSO has not had as robust a “summer season” in recent years and this schedule of concerts will keep it squarely in the public eye for the full year. CSO musicians – in various configurations – will perform in some of the city’s landmark venues: the Denver Botanic Gardens, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Civic Center and the Clyfford Still Museum, which opened in November.

The orchestra will also take its sounds to the suburbs with dates at the , and the two new to the south, the Lone Tree Arts Center and the Parker Arts, Culture and Events Center.

The concerts are the first major change in programming under the CSO’s new business plan and labor contract, which gives it more flexibility in the way it deploys musicians. For classical music fans, especially those who favor pops programs, that means more options to see the orchestra in new ways — backing Merchant, playing movie music at Red Rocks and Western music at Boettcher, breaking into smaller groups in Parker and under the moonlight in Arvada.

We’ll let the CSO take over the marketing from here. Here is the schedule, and ticket info, direct from the orchestra.
